About us

We are an independent research entity based on a 1500 ha Private Game Reserve in remote Limpopo Province, South Africa

The Mogalakwena Research Centre is actively involved in research on a range of projects, but also facilitates study and research opportunities, assists with logistical and field support and provides a research-friendly environment for visiting national and international researchers, students, student groups and volunteers.

Internships

Mogalakwena Research Centre welcomes students undertaking an external internship as part of their tertiary studies. During their internship, students partake in one or more of the current research projects under the supervision of the qualified Research Centre staff.

Research

The Research Centre facilitates students and researchers by assisting with the development of field work/data collection skills, knowledge in ecological research and management activities essential to the understanding and conservation of environmental and social values and systems in the African landscape.

Home away from home

Mogalakwena Bush Camp is situated within walking distance of the Mogalakwena Research Centre and the Mogalakwena River Lodge. The camp is surrounded by beautiful bushveld and is frequently visited by wildlife.

Testimonials

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our students say:

ANNE VAN DER LAAN

Van Hall Larenstein, NL

The Mogalakwena Research Centre gives you the opportunity to discover Africa while also developing yourself as a researcher within this ecosystem. I highly recommend coming here, not only because you gain valuable experiences but also because you get to meet amazing people!

THÉO JOTTREAU

L’institut Agro Rennes-Angers, FR

One of the best experience of my life in multiple aspect. I discovered Africa, research, made new friends and encountered a lot of inspiring people. The overall experience was for me absolutely amazing and will stay forever in my mind!

RHEA NORONHA

Centre of Biodiversity Genomics, CA

I could not recommend Mogalakwena Research Centre enough. Aside from the beautiful atmosphere and being in nature, the people here are amazing. Although I didn’t come here as a student, I was still given the same attention as everyone else doing a project. It was an incredible learning experience, and I will never forget all my memories here. Enjoy it while you can!

MALAIKA MONARENG

Saddleback College, USA

Mogalakwena is an incredible place. The knowledge and experiences I gained, even outside of the research, is priceless and unforgettable. I am so thankful that the MRC bred an environment that feels like home and I’m so grateful for all the new brothers and sisters I have from all over the world. I highly recommend visiting the MRC if you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure, knowledge and experiences that are unique to Mogalakwena, and lifelong friends.

ARON LANG

University of Osnabrück, DE

The Mogalakwena is a paradise at the other side of the world! I have grown so much as a person during my 6-month stay here and can by all means only describe this time as the best of my life. I made not only wonderful experiences and memories but also met a lot of life-time friends, many of whom are staff members. All my expectations were far exceeded and I can only recommend this to everybody that wants to broaden their horizon.
